Captain Harpreet Chandi became the first Indian woman to reach the South Pole

Indian-origin British woman Harpreet Chandi has conquered the South Pole alone. With this, she has also become the first black woman to complete this difficult journey alone without any support and help. Harpreet Chandi is also known as 'Polar Preet'.


Harpreet is the first woman of Indian origin, who has completed this adventurous expedition. Preet Chandi (Sikh army officer Preet Chandi) has created history by becoming the first "non-white woman" to complete the journey of South Pole alone. Harpreet, popularly known as Polar Preet, made this announcement on his live blog at the end of the 40th day of the journey.

According to a CNN report, Chandi's adventure began in November last year, when she began her unsupported journey from Antarctica's Hercules Inlet. He traveled 700 miles (1,127 km) throughout his journey. Antarctica (South Pole) is the coldest, highest, driest and windiest continent on Earth.

Chandi is a Clinical Training Officer in the British Army and is posted in the Medical Regiment of North-West England. His primary job is to organize and train camps for military doctors.

She is currently pursuing her Masters (Part Time) in Sports and Exercise Medicine from Queen Mary's University while living in London. As an athlete, he has participated in Marathon and Ultra Marathon and has received several trainings as an army officer.

She has also been posted in the United Nations peacekeeping force in Nepal and Kenya as well as in South Sudan. Captain Harpreet Chandi joined the Army Reserve at the age of 19 and the Regular Army at the age of 25.
