What is Tiger Reserve?
Important Facts related to Tiger Reserve
- At present there are 53 Tiger Reserves in the country.
- The country's latest 53rd Tiger Reserve has recently been declared a joint area of Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary in Chhattisgarh.
- The 52nd Tiger Reserve is the Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary in Rajasthan, which has been recognized as a Tiger Reserve by the Government of Rajasthan in 2021.
- Tiger is the national animal of India.
- India's first tiger reserve is Jim Corbett, which was declared as a Tiger Reserve on 1 April 1973, although Jim Corbett was given the status of National Park in 1936.
- Nagarjuna Sagar Srisailam is the largest Tiger Reserve of India in terms of area.
- The smallest Tiger Reserve in terms of area is Pench (Maharashtra).
- Namdapha, the highest altitude tiger reserve in the world, is in Arunachal Pradesh.
- Tigers are found in total 18 states of the country.
- Kailash Sankhla is also known as "Tiger Man of India".
- India has the largest number of tigers in the whole world.
- According to the report on tigers in 2019, there are 2967 tigers in India.
- Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of 526 tigers in India. Karnataka has the highest number of 524 tigers after Madhya Pradesh.

What is Project Tiger ?
- In order to conserve the tiger population and the ever-decreasing tiger population in the country, the government launched "Project Tiger" in 1973, under which many steps were taken for the conservation of India's national animal tiger.
- For the first time under the leadership of Kailash Sankhla of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Indira Gandhi started a program called Project Tiger in 1973, hence Kailash Sankhla is also called Tiger Man of India.
- When Tiger Project Tiger was launched in 1973, 9 Tiger Reserves were declared all over India.
